CCIW Press Release

Oct. 1, 2019 - Senior goalkeeper Marco Soto of the North Central College men's soccer team has earned his second consecutive College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Player of the Week award.

The Cardinals began CCIW play this past week by defeating Millikin University, 1-0 in double overtime. Soto tallied nine saves in the nearly 108 minutes played to secure North Central's first CCIW win of the season. The win improves Soto's record to 5-3-1 for the year.

Compared to the rest of the CCIW, Soto leads the conference in goals against average at just .692 (six goals allowed over nine games). He is also tied for first in total shutouts as he has held opponents scoreless in four of the nine games North Central has played. Soto sits in second place with 44 saves, only behind Wheaton College's Hasten Biddlecome who has made 61 saves. He is one of only five Cardinal men's soccer players to win the award twice in their career and only the second to win the award in the same season (Brian Smith, 2001).

North Central visits #19 Wheaton tonight as they look to win back-to-back games against Wheaton for the first time since at least 1980. The game is set to begin at 7:00 pm at Joe Bean Stadium.
