CCIW Release
Oct. 15, 2019 – The North Central College men's cross country team has received its fifth College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Athlete of the Week award of the season, as the CCIW recognized sophomore
Cameron Benes on Tuesday following his first-place finish at the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational.
In just his second race of the season, Benes led all collegiate competitors through the 8,000-meter course as St. James Farm, crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 26 minutes and 25.4 seconds in his best career finish. Behind him, North Central's short-handed squad swept places eight through eleven to amass 39 points and a second-place finish among 11 schools.
With this latest honor, the Cardinals now own five of the season's seven CCIW Athlete of the Week Awards, with three from
Matt Osmulski and one from freshman
Kyle Bell.
The first-ranked Cardinals gear up for the Kollege Town Sports Invitational on Oct. 19, held at the site of this year's Midwest Region Championship. Race time at Lake Breeze Golf Course is set for 10:30 a.m.
