Running into their toughest opponent thus far this season, the North Central College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match at the hands of fifth-ranked Carthage College on Wednesday in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup inside Gregory Arena.

North Central (5-13, 0-4 CCIW) opened the match scoring the first three points as Sarah Geosling and Kaylee Allensworth each recorded kills, while Jackie Gannon stuffed a Carthage attack to put the Cardinals ahead 3-0, but that lead was quickly evaporated as the Lady Reds stormed back to score nine-straight points.

Carthage rolled from that point forward as the Cardinals hit -.148 in the set, recording six kills to 10 errors, and also had trouble returning the Carthage serve as Ellie LeCount tallied four in the opening set.

Again falling behind 9-3 to start the second set, North Central had a tough time containing the high powered Carthage offense, as the Lady Reds recorded 16 kills to just three errors to hit .483 en route to the 25-16 second set final.

The Cardinals held with the Lady Reds over the first third of the final set, holding a 7-7 tie but Carthage caught fire to go on a 17-4 rally to induce set point.  North Central held off three-straight set points but it was too little too late as Carthage finished out the third set 25-14.

North Central committed 21 attack errors on the evening, finishing the match hitting .055, while Carthage recorded 39 kills to 10 errors, hitting .299.

Seven kills from Reagan Raymer led the team, while Kiarah Horn finished with 12 assists and Finnley Smith added 10.  Lexi Barry led the team with 17 digs on defense and tallied the lone Cardinal service ace on the evening.

Carthage finished with 10 aces on the evening, led by four from LeCount to go along with her match-high 29 assists.  Haley Horner led all players with 10 kills, while Nicole Acton and Megan Behrendt each finished with eight.

North Central returns to the court on Friday, Oct. 4, taking on Albion College at 5 p.m. in a neutral site match inside Wheaton College's King Arena.
