URBANA-CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Oct. 6, 2019) - Using the competition as a final tune-up before the regional qualifier later this month, the North Central College women's triathlon team impressed at Tri the Illini on Sunday, with three finishers taking top-ten places in the female collegiate division.
Tri the Illini consisted of a 300-meter swim followed by a 14-mile bike ride with a 5-kilometer run wrapping up the competition.
Madelyn Scopp continued her impressive season, as the senior took second place in a tough field, finishing the course in one hour, six minutes, 28.9 seconds. She was the top female collegiate finisher as well, finishing over 90 seconds ahead of the second finisher. The next Cardinal finisher and second top-ten finisher was
Annika Cotner, finishing as the sixth overall female and third collegiate female with a time of 1:09:55.6.
Molly Olk (1:13:24.5) was the next Cardinal across the line, taking seventh in the female collegiate division and 13th for all female competitors.
Andrea Zwonitzer (1:15:54.3),
Cora Isaacson (1:16:33.6), and
Amelia Woods (1:26:52.9) wrapped up North Central's competitors, taking 14th, 16th, and 36th in the female collegiate division, respectively.
Other Division III schools that the Cardinals competed against were Transylvania University, Millikin University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and University of Concordia-Wisconsin.
The Cardinals look forward to the USA East Region Qualifier on Oct. 19 in Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, before they take a shot at another USA Triathlon National Championship on Nov. 16 in Tempe, Arizona.
