2019 CCIW All-Conference Men's Soccer Teams
Nov. 12, 2019 - Head coach
Enzo Fuschino along with four North Central College men's soccer players earned College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) accolades for the 2019 season, released on Tuesday.
Fuschino shares the Joe Bean Coach of the Year award, which honors the top coach in the CCIW, along with Kris Grahn of North Park University as both coaches led their team to the CCIW Tournament in their first season at their respective institutions. Fuschino is just the second North Central coach to earn the award, since it began in 1996.
Seniors
Marco Soto and
Alexis Flores joined junior
Spencer Wiese on the first team, while junior
Austin Lombardi was selected to the second team.
Soto played every minute in goal for the Cardinals as posted an 11-5-3 (6-2 CCIW) record. He tallied eight shutouts, 83 saves and a .69 goals against average for the year. In addition, he ranks second in program history in single-season shutouts, and career shutouts with 12. Soto also ranked first in the CCIW for goals against average and total shutouts.
Flores led North Central in total points (24), goals (10), shots (57), game-winning goals (4), and penalty kicks (5/5). He finishes his career ranked fifth in career goals with 31 and seventh in career points with 74.
Wiese played defender for the Cardinals, but was still able to rank second on the team in points as he recorded 10 points on the season, all from goals. He also tallied two game-winning goals for the year.
As a team, the Cardinals finished the year at 11-5-3, and earned the No. 2 seed in the CCIW Tournament. This marked the first time North Central has hosted a conference tournament game since the CCIW adopted their new tournament format in 2002.
