Nov. 27, 2019 – The North Central College men's wrestling team delivered a dominant 47-0 victory over Augustana College on Wednesday inside Gregory Arena for the Cardinals' first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) victory of the season.
Robbie Precin got things started for the Cardinals at 125-pounds, delivering a 14-3 major decision.
Ian Mullen followed by doing what he does best: winning by fall. It took the senior just two minutes to pin Augustana's Ben Gruenstein for Mullen's eighth pin this season.
Jaime Suarez (141-lbs) kept the momentum going for North Central, overcoming an early three-point deficit to eventually win by decision, 14-9
At 149-pounds,
Anthony Rink easily disposed of his Viking opponent, winning by tech fall 21-2. With 21 unanswered points on the board, North Central continued pouring it on.
Cole Cervantes secured a 12-9 decision to win at 157-lbs, while
Jacob Boumans (165) needed only 51 seconds to pin Neil O'Shaughnessy, recording his fifth fall of the season.
Meanwhile,
Brock Montford picked up a win at 174-lbs by a 14-5 major decision.
Cody Baldridge (184) was on pace for a major decision victory, but opted for a pin against Buddy Mancia 1:40 into the first round.
Jason Nako recorded a 14-3 major decision at 197-lbs, leaving just
Ben Bergen at 285, who capped off the night with a pin (4:55).
The Cardinals travel to Wheaton College on Dec. 5 for another CCIW matchup. The action is set to get underway at 7 p.m. inside King Arena.
