BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Nov. 6, 2019) - Looking to advance to the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament championship on Saturday, the North Central College women's soccer team battled Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday but dropped the contest 1-0.
A first-half stalemate yielded a tie despite the Titans controlling the ball for a majority of the 45 minutes, out-shooting the Cardinals by a 12-1 margin. The Cardinals saw more opportunities in the second half of the contest, managing to triple their shots from the first half, although none of them came to fruition. The Titans broke the stalemate in the 54th minute, with Lauren Shanks scoring an unassisted goal to put the Titans in the lead for good at 1-0. The Cardinals looked for an answer but found none, with the game ending at the hands of the 1-0 Titan tally. For the game, Illinois Wesleyan managed to out shoot the Cardinals by a 24-4 margin, creating many more chances on offense that the Cardinals were able to.
Madison Lockard saved eight shots for the Cardinals in the loss, falling to 9-8-1 on the season. She ends her season with the second most shutouts in a single season by a Cardinals goalie and is third on the single-season list for saves.
Kaitlyn Cannon also appears on the single-season records, coming in at tied for fourth in assists.
