WHITTIER, Calif. (Dec. 30, 2019) – The North Central College women's basketball team had trouble keeping possession of the ball in a 67-47 loss at Whittier College on Monday, committing a season-high 28 turnovers, wrapping up their quick two-game trip in California to end the calendar year.
Attempting 20-less field goals over the course of the contest, North Central (5-7) was done in by a 28-15 margin in turnovers.
The Cardinals led early on as a three-pointer and layup from
Maya Walls on consecutive possessions followed by one of two free throws from
Lyndsay Brennan gave North Central a 13-5 advantage with 3:24 to play in the first.
That eight-point lead quickly dissipated however, as the Cardinals went cold on offense over the next 10 minutes, scoring only two points over the stretch to face a 27-15 deficit that was finally snapped by a
Page Desenberg three-pointer at the 3:33 mark of the second quarter.
After trailing 32-25 at halftime, North Central managed just nine points in the third quarter as Whittier (7-6) took advantage, opening up a 17-point lead and would lead by double digits the rest of the way.
Haydn Braun was the lone Cardinal in double figures, tying her career-high with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range. Desenberg and
Natali Dimitrova each finished with seven points, while Dimitrova and Walls each added seven rebounds.
Teani White and Emily Guerena paced the Poet offense with 16 and 14 points, respectively, while Guerena led all players with nine rebounds.
North Central returns to College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play and Gregory Arena on Saturday, Jan. 4, playing host to Wheaton College with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m. Links to live in-game coverage are available
