WHEATON, Ill. (Dec. 5, 2019) – Continuing to roll through its College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) competition, the No. 10-ranked North Central College men's wrestling team enjoyed a 39-6 victory over Wheaton College inside King Arena on Thursday.
Enzo Silva got things started for North Central at 125-pounds, defeating Wheaton's Anthony Zamora by decision (3-2) to improve to give the Cardinals three points and a lead they would hold for rest of the night. At 133-lbs,
Ian Mullen made quick work of his Thunder foe, recording a pin in one minute and 29 seconds, while
Marc Fleenor took the 141-lbs match by decision (7-5) to push North Central's lead to 12-0.
Anthony Rink (149-lbs) took down Ben Black 17-0 for his second technical fall of the season and
Rafael Roman followed suit by winning with a 16-4 major decision to notch his first win of the year.
Jacob Boumans delivered a pin (1:29) at 165-lbs to improve to 9-1 on the season.
Wheaton found its only points of the night in the form of a medical forfeit at 174-lbs, allowing Hunter Harrison credit for the victory over
Cameron Hayes. But that 19-point deficit was the closest the Thunder would come to tying the match as the Cardinals closed the day by sweeping the final three matches.
The 184-lbs match featured two of the nation's top wrestlers as No. 8-ranked
Cody Baldridge squared off against No. 7-ranked Isaac Odell. Baldridge ultimately came away with the victory by taking a 3-2 decision.
Ben Bergen (197-lbs) added an 8-2 decision at 197-lbs, while
Jason Nako earned an easy six points for the team by receiving credit for the Thunder's forfeit at 285-lbs.
