KENOSHA, Wis. (Feb. 6, 2019) – Scoring their first win in Kenosha, Wisconsin since 2006, the North Central College women's basketball team scored a 60-58 victory in the final seconds in a come from behind College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) contest inside Tarble Arena.
After a three-pointer from Madie Kaelber to open the fourth quarter increased the Carthage lead 47-42, the North Central defense put up a stand lasting over eight minutes without allowing a field goal while the Cardinal offense took full advatange.
Lyndsay Brennan cut the lead to three with a layup, followed by a jumper from
Allison Pearson and another layup from
Maya Walls gave the Cardinals a slim 48-47 lead with 5:33 to play in the contest.
Following a Carthage free throw to tie the game, Walls once again overtook the lead with a bucket down low before
Page Desenberg hit from beyond the arc and Brennan knocked down another jumper to give North Central (7-15, 5-8 CCIW) its largest lead of the contest 55-48 with just over two minutes to play.
Sammie Woodward snapped the eight-plus minute stretch without a field goal with a three-pointer at the 1:08 mark, before tying the game with another long ball with 24 seconds to play. With just four seconds remaining before what looked like overtime, Pearson was fouled driving to the basket on the final possession and proceeded to sink two pressure-filled free throws to clinch the comeback win.
14 points and four assists from Pearson paced the Cardinal offense, while Brennan also finished in double figures with 11.
Natali Dimitrova finished with three blocked shots on the evening, moving her into 10
th on the program's all-time list with 47 career blocks.
Woodward led all scorers with 21 points for the Lady Reds (14-8, 8-5 CCIW), while Autumn Kalis added 12 and Kaelber finished with 10.
Winners of four of the last five, North Central returns home on Saturday, Feb. 9, playing host to 24
