PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (Mar. 17, 2019) - Denied in its bid to claim a come-from-behind victory for the third straight day, the North Central College baseball team saw its perfect start to the 2019 campaign halted at six games on Sunday, 3-2, by No. 22-ranked Babson College (Massachusetts) at North Charlotte Regional Park.

The Cardinals seized the lead quickly in the early going, as Matt Sutherland led off the first inning with a double and later scored on a two-bagger by Colin Weilbacher. The advantage doubled to 2-0 in the third, when John Carmody stepped to the plate with one out and smacked the first pitch over the fence for his second home run of the young season.

The Beavers (4-2) broke up the shutout with center fielder Jake Oliger's RBI double in the fourth inning, then pulled even on a run-scoring single by third baseman Edward Lehr in the sixth. Lehr later drove in what would be the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the eight.

Sutherland and Weilbacher each went 2 for 4 at the plate for the Cardinals. Charlie Klemm drew the start on the pitcher's mound and scattered five hits in 6 1/3 innings, striking out six and walking three.

North Central (6-1) has a day off on Monday before facing Denison University (7-1) at noon Eastern time on Tuesday.
