Apr. 10, 2019 – For the second time this season and the third time in her career, North Central College's
Diana Barcelata has earned College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors, announced by the conference on Wednesday.
The weekly award is the third of her career, previously earning the award on Apr. 25, 2018 and Mar. 20, 2019, as Barcelata finished a combined 4-0 on the week to lead the Cardinals to a pair of wins over St. Norbert College and Saint Mary's College (Indiana) last Sunday.
Barcelata teamed up with
Katie McGraw at No. 2 doubles to take down St. Norbert's Hannah Swajanen and Hannah Keller, 8-5 while defeating Saint Mary's Alyssa Gulli and Lilly Chamberlin, 8-3 in the nightcap.
In singles play, Barcelata dropped just two games on the day, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lauren Paulson of St. Norbert in the morning, before an identical 6-1, 6-0 win over Saint Mary's Monica Davy.
This marks the third award for North Central this season, as
Alaina Kanthaphixay was also named Player of the Week on Sept. 26.
The Cardinals wrap up regular season play on Sunday, Apr. 14, playing host to Coe College and Edgewood College for a pair of matches at Nike Park beginning at 9 a.m.
