DUBUQUE, Iowa (Apr. 24, 2019) – Not looking to drop a third-straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) game by a narrow margin, the North Central College men's lacrosse team held on through 60-minutes of regulation play to force the University of Dubuque (5-11, 1-5) into overtime and came away with a 6-5 victory after senior Danny Boyle scored the golden goal on Wednesday evening.

The Cardinals struck first and last in the contest as Tommy Huizinga opened the scoring halfway through the first period. The Spartans came back to close the first 15-minutes of play with two goals but Huizinga and Noah Parrill notched the lone two goals of the second period to give North Central a 3-2 advantage at the half.

Coming out of the locker room, neither team was able to generate any offense until Parrill scored his second goal of the contest and only goal of the period with 11 seconds left in the third. The fourth period saw the most action as both teams combined for four goals that leveled the score 5-5 as time expired and for the first time this season, the Cardinals were headed into overtime.

Dubuque opened the overtime period a man down off of a slashing penalty and the Cardinals took two opportunities on goal, missing high. North Central continued to find offensive opportunities and drew another penalty with 49 seconds left in the first overtime and up a player. North Central knew this was the moment to make something happen and Boyle found the opening in the Spartans' defense to shoot and score, sending the Cardinals home with the win.

Huizinga had three goals, leading all players, and Parrill added two and an assist in the win, while goalkeeper Dylan Cost again led the team with eight ground balls on top of his 15 saves. Steven Faux came away with four caused turnovers and John Fitzgerald and Sean Tomonari each added three.

North Central (9-4, 2-3 CCIW) plays its final game of the regular season on Saturday, Apr. 27 at Carthage College. Game time at Art Keller Field is set for 1 p.m.
