ROCK ISLAND, ILL. (Apr. 3, 2019) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team increased their winning streak to seven on Wednesday against Augustana College, taking down the Vikings by a 16-7 score using a combination of offensive firepower and defensive prowess.

The Cardinals took an early lead with Jessica Deetjen scoring three times in the first eight minutes of the game and Grace Steiner also adding one goal of her own. The Vikings (5-5, 0-1 CCIW) went on a 3-1 run shortly after to make the score 5-3 in favor of the Cardinals.

North Central then shut the door on the first half on a 4-0 run to push the score to a commanding 9-3 tally with the second 30-minutes still to play. The Vikings looked to make a big comeback with an early goal in the second period but the Cardinals thwarted the potential of the comeback with Deetjen, Madeline McHugh, and Berit Vandenbroucke opening things up for good. With the game already out of reach with 20 minutes remaining, the Cardinals were able to put four more goals in the back of the net, while Augustana added three.

Deetjen scored five in the game to move into fifth all-time on the program's scoring list. Christina Truver added four goals, along with five ground balls, three caused turnovers, and four draw controls. Grace Steiner added to her impressive stretch of games, scoring three goals while also adding three assists.

Mary Pinkowski lead the defense with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Camille Seghesio improved her record in net on the season to 9-1, saving six shots on seven saves.

The Cardinals (10-1, 2-1 CCIW) play in their toughest match up of the season on Saturday at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, taking on University of Chicago, who will come into the game with an 8-1 record in their inaugural season. Click HERE for live stats and HERE for live video.
