CHICAGO, Ill. (Apr. 7, 2019) –
Rolling to their first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) series of the season, the North Central College baseball team put up double-digit runs for the second straight game against North Park University in a 11-3 win at the Holmgren Complex.

Rob Marinec picked up right where he left off last evening, smashing his second homerun in as many at-bats, a two-run shot to center field to give North Central an early 2-0 lead and the Cardinals never looked back from that point forward.

North Central (14-6, 4-3 CCIW) added an unearned run in the top of the third, as Colin Weilbacher came around to score on an error by the Viking left fielder following a Joe Rizzo base hit.

Weilbacher scored the Cardinals' fourth run of the contest as well, trotting home on a RBI-double off the bat of Rizzo, while starter Jason Shanner worked around leadoff hits in three of his five innings pitched, allowing zero runs over his five innings in his first start of the season.

The offense put the game out of reach with four runs in the top of the eighth and three more in the ninth in support of Shanner who improves to 2-0 on the season with the victory.

For the second straight game, eight of the nine batters in the Cardinal lineup recorded a hit, as Marinec led the way finishing 2-for-3 with two hit by pitches, a walk, a run scored, two stolen bases and four RBI.   Weilbacher reached base in all five of his plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a walk, hit by pitch and sacrifice fly, while also scoring a pair of runs and driving in one.

Matt Sutherland and Jared Wojcik each added two hits and two runs scored, while Jeremy Quade scored three times.  Rizzo and Michael Stoltz both added a pair of hits as six Cardinals finished with multiple hits.

North Central returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 9 with a non-conference single game against Benedictine University with first pitch at 3 p.m. at Zimmerman Stadium.  Links to live in-game coverage are available HERE.
