DECATUR, Ill. (May 4, 2019) – The North Central College men's tennis team saw its season come to a close on Saturday at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship, falling 5-2 to Carthage College in the third-place match at Fairview Park Tennis Complex.
Carthage (16-10) opened the scoring with a victory at No. 3 doubles, before the Cardinal duo of
Victor Krueger and
Andy Hinch evened the score with a 8-5 win at the No. 1 position over Tripp Schulte and Andre Antreassian.
After suffering a tight 8-7 defeat at the No. 2 spot, the Cardinals took a 2-1 deficit into singles play, where the Red Men increased their lead 3-1 with a win at No. 5. Hinch held the Cardinals to within one of the lead with a 6-4, 6-3 straight-set victory at the No. 4 position.
That proved to be the lone singles victory on the day for North Central, as Carthage clinched the match win with victories at No. 3 and No. 6.
North Central closes out the season with an overall record of 18-7, finishing four at the CCIW Championship.
