2019 ITA All-Academic Teams and Scholar Athletes
July 18, 2019 – For the second consecutive season, the North Central College women's tennis team has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an All-Academic Team, while a record six individuals were honored as ITA Scholar Athletes for the 2018-19 season.
To qualify for the ITA All-Academic Team award, a program must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or above, as all varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA. A total of 125 NCAA Division III women's teams qualified for the distinction, and North Central is one of four College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) representatives along with Carthage College, Millikin University and Wheaton College. This marks the fourth such award for the program, as the Cardinals previously earned the award in 2009, 2011 and 2018.
To qualify for ITA Scholar Athlete recognition, student-athletes must earn a varsity letter, have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 and have been enrolled at their present institution for at least two semesters. A record six Cardinals met the requirements this past season, as
Lauren Dvorak,
Morgan House,
Katie Legorreta and
Tiffany Smolik all received the honor for the second time, while
Emily Adams and
Katie McGraw were first-time recipients.
North Central begins the 2019-20 season on Saturday, Aug. 31 with a pair of matches at Benet Academy Tennis Courts in Lisle, Illinois, taking on Wartburg College in the opener before squaring off with Concordia University Wisconsin in the nightcap.
