PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (Sept. 1, 2019) - Racing in their first competition of the 2019 season, the North Central College women's triathlon team were led by a top-five individual finish among Division III competitors by Madelyn Scopp as they took first as a team among their in-division opponents at the USA Triathlon Central Region Qualifier on Sunday.

Arizona State University finished first among all divisions as a team, also having the top three individual finishers. Drury University took first among Division II teams, as the Cardinals took first among the five Division III teams with 11 points. Trine University took second as a team (24 points), Millikin University (28) took third, with Milwaukee School of Engineering (40) fourth and Concordia University Wisconsin (48) fifth.

Scopp finished the course in one hour, nine minutes, 38.9 seconds, taking 24th overall and fourth among Division III competitors. Grace Miller (1:10:00.3), Annika Cotner (1:10:12.8) and Molly Olk (1:12:38.1) were not far behind Scopp, finishing fifth, sixth, and seventh within Division III. Cora Isaacson (1:17:05.5) was the fifth Cardinal to cross the line taking 14th in the division, while Amelia Woods (1:28:32.6) was the Cardinal's final finisher, coming in 25th place within the division.

Miller was the first Cardinal out of the water, finishing the swim portion of the race in 11 minutes, 14.9 seconds. Cotner was the second for North Central, coming through in 11:47.4. Olk finished the swim in 12:11.5, while Scopp found herself having to make up ground after a swim portion of 13:36.4.

Miller and Cotner stayed steady during the bike, staying as the top two Cardinals. Scopp made up a small amount of time during the bike, but still found herself having to make a big move during the run.

She did just that, completing the run in 19:35.0. She was the only non-Division I competitor to complete the run under 20 minutes, making up place after place to her final finish of fourth. Miller and Cotner finished the run 23:11.8 and 22:44.9, respectively on their way to their finishes. Olk was not far behind her teammates, completing the run in 24:02.0.

The Cardinals take two weeks off until their next competition, traveling to Trine University on Sept. 14, taking part in the Trine University Triple Sprint Triathlon.
