CHICAGO, Ill. (Sept. 10, 2019) – The North Central College women's volleyball team rolled to their third-straight win on Tuesday, never surrendering the lead in a 3-0 shutout over Illinois Institute of Technology at the Keating Sports Center.
Hitting a season-high .287 as a team, the Cardinals (4-5) jumped out to an early four-point lead in the opening set, as a pair of kills from
Reagan Raymer and another from
Emmie Naal fueled the run.
Another kill from each of Raymer and Naal and another off the hand of
Sarah Geosling gave North Central a 12-4 lead while forcing a Scarlet Hawk (2-6) timeout. The Cardinals kept the pressure on as yet another kill from Raymer increased the lead to double digits and North Central cruised from that point forward closing out the opener 25-15.
Set two was all North Central once again, opening up a 7-1 lead off the bat as two kills from each of
Kaylee Allensworth and
Kimberly Epker highlighted the early run.
The Cardinals held a steady lead throughout before Geosling closed the second 25-16 with a kill off an assist from
Kiarah Horn. The first two sets featured 16 kills apiece from the Cardinal offense, while hitting .333 in the second set.
Set three began much of the same way as the set prior, as North Central took an early 6-1 advantage, as four IIT attack errors and a kill from Allensworth handed the Cardinals the first five points of the set.
North Central took advantage of 10 Scartlet Hawk attack errors in the final set en route to the 25-17 victory, while the Cardinals committed only three errors to 12 kills.
Naal tied her career high with 13 kills to lead all players, while Raymer added nine kills and 10 digs. Geosling also finished with nine kills, while Allensworth added six and 11 digs on defense. Horn dished out a match-high 36 assists, while
Lexi Barry led the way with 16 digs.
