DECATUR, Ill. (Sept. 28, 2019) - Beginning their College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin schedule on the road at Millikin University on Saturday, the North Central College men's soccer team was led by a phenomenal performance by goalie
Marco Soto on their way to a 1-0 2OT victory over the Big Blue.
Soto was busy for most of the afternoon, saving five shots in the first half and four in the second half to preserve the scoreless tie going into overtime. On the other side of the ball, the Cardinals struggled to get shots off during the first 90 minutes, managing four shots in the first in the half and two in the second with four of them being on goal.
Despite the limited chances in regulation, the Cardinals dominated the overtime periods, not allowing a single Big Blue (4-4-1, 0-1-0 CCIW) shot while shooting five of their own. Going into the 108th minute with the score still tied,
Elmer Eng controlled a pass from
Sho Kawajiri and fired it in the back of the net to break the tie and end the game at 1-0.
Soto, coming off his first career CCIW Athlete of the Week honors last week, saved nine shots sent his way, recording his fourth shut out of the season.
The Cardinals (5-3-1, 1-0-0 CCIW) look to score their third straight win against CCIW foe Wheaton College on Oct. 1 at 7 pm. Click
