Sept. 3, 2019 – Honored for his efforts during the team's season opener, North Central College men's cross country senior Matt Osmulski has won the first installment of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Cross Country Athlete of the Week Award. The CCIW announced their selection on Tuesday.

Osmulski helped pace the No. 1-ranked Cardinals to victory at the Elmhurst College Earlybird Invitational on Friday, placing first in the 6-kilometer race with a time of 18:54.1 to shave more than 30 seconds off his time from last season. North Central won the meet with a perfect score and swept the top-10 places.

This is the first weekly award for Osmulski. The sole returner from last year's top-seven, the Elmwood-native earned All-America honors with an 11th-place finish at the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships.

The Cardinals return to action on Sept. 7 at the Vic Godfrey Open, hosted by University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Race time is set for 5:30 p.m.
