NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Feb. 20, 2020) - Coming into the contest holding a five-game win streak, the North Central College men's volleyball team put the clamps on North Park University on Thursday, routing the Vikings in three sets.
The Cardinals found their groove early on, jumping out to an 11-5 lead in the first set. Not holding back, they finished just as well, going on a 14-5 run to close out the first set and take an early 1-0 lead. The host Cardinals were led by a four-kill set by
Jared Moser and a three-kill set by
Jason Eslinger.
Samuel Kharasch got the start at libero, with the program leader in career digs recording seven in the set to lead the team.
In the second, the Vikings (3-8, 1-1 CCIW) showed some life, leading the Cardinals for a good portion of the set. Following a timely North Central timeout down 16-14, the Cardinals stormed back into the set, going on an 8-2 run to pull ahead for good in the set, finishing it 25-20. The Cardinals could not be stopped in the third set, not recording an attacking error on their way to a 25-12 score, putting the match away in straight sets.
Eslinger and Moser led the way again for the Cardinals, with Eslinger recording 14 kills and Moser adding 12 while hitting 0.476.
Justin Curtis followed his College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) athlete of the week performance last week with another outstanding game, recording six kills on a 1.000 hitting percentage.
Michael Trunzo was the main setter as usual for the Cardinals, assisting on 40 kills for the night.
Casey Hiller got in on the action on the defensive side of things, recording two block assists and also recording seven kills on the evening.
The Cardinals (8-3, 2-0 CCIW) look to stay hot against Greenville University on Saturday, with the match set to go off at 3 pm. Click
