MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Feb. 29, 2020) – Opening its spring break trip with a huge offensive outburst, the North Central College men's lacrosse team defeated Pfeiffer University 21-14 to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Pfeiffer took a 2-0 lead a little under halfway through the first quarter as Josh Allen scored twice, but goals from
Jared Weaver and
Scott Allgood quickly knotted the game up at two apiece. The Falcons briefly reclaimed the lead in the first, but man-up goals from
Riley Bachinski and
Scott Allgood in the final two minutes of the quarter put the Cardinals back ahead, which proved to be a lead they wouldn't yield.Â
After a back-and-forth first quarter, North Central seized control of the game with an eight-goal outburst to take a 12-7 lead into halftime. Returning from the break, It was more of the same as the Cardinals scored three times before the four-minute mark to go up 15-7. The Falcons found some life midway through the third, scoring four straight goals to cut the lead to 15-11. But North Central found its footing and went on its own four-goal run to reclaim the momentum and put the game out of reach for good.
Huizinga,
Scott Allgood and Bachinski each found the back of the net four times, while
Steven Faux added three more goals.
Jacob Ray had another strong day in the face-off circle, going 24-for-33 on the day and scooping 10 ground balls, which ranks fourth in program history for single-game groundballs. In goal for the Cardinals fo the majority of the game,
Zayne Hartz made six saves.
