NAPERVILLE, ILL. (Feb. 8, 2020) - Holding their opponents to a season-low 0.030 opponent hitting percentage, the North Central College men's volleyball team stifled anything Marian University (Wis.) had to throw at them on Saturday, winning the match in three sets inside Gregory Arena.
The Cardinals were nearly unstoppable against the Sabres, not allowing Marian (3-3) to take the lead at any point during the contest. North Central started the first set on fire, jumping out to an 8-3 lead. Marian cut the lead down to two before the Cardinals went on another run to make the score 12-6. They did not look back from there, nearly doubling up the Sabre's score to take the the first set 25-14.
Jason Eslinger and
Jared Moser tied for the team-lead in kills, each recording four while
Ben Williams added three in the first set.
Michael Trunzo dug six attacks as Moser and
Justin Curtis each recorded two blocks.
Marian kept the beginning of the second set closer than the first, only trailing 11-8 close to halfway through the set. The Cardinals went on a tear from there, going on a 10-1 run to blow the score open at 21-9, coasting to a 25-15 final tally. Moser once again recorded four kills, with
Kevin Braceros narrowly trailing him for the team-lead in the set with three.
Parker Nelson, getting the start at libero for the first time this season, tied with Trunzo for most digs in the second set with five.
The Cardinals finished the Sabres in the third set, going on to 25-12 to complete the match. Braceros recorded another four kills in the set while
Jeremy Cardenas and
Jake Miller had three a piece. Cardenas had four blocks in the frame, while Braceros had three.
Overall, Moser led the squad with eight kills, while Miller had six. Trunzo assisted on 26 kills and also led the team with three service aces. Nelson had 14 digs on the afternoon for the team high and Cardenas had six blocks for the game.
The Cardinals are at home again on Feb. 11, hosting Lakeland University at 7 pm. Click
