Mar. 11, 2020 – A strong performance on both sides of the field allowed the North Central College men's lacrosse team to defeat Trine University (4-1) at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium Wednesday evening, preserving the team's unblemished home record.

North Central turned to its standout freshman Riley Bachinski to spark the offense and the attackman delivered just 45 seconds into the game, firing a shot past Thunder goalkeeper Anthony Marasco off a pass from Tommy Huizinga. Trine found a quick answer in the form of an unassisted goal from Noah Markus a little under a minute later, but the Cardinals were determined to not allow the visitors to stick around and used a three straight goals–two from Jared Weaver and another from Huizinga–to quiet the Thunder and build a 4-1 lead with 5:33 remaining in the first. The Thunder got one back soon after, but North Central quickly erased any thoughts of a comeback with another trio of goals that included Anthony Zowin's first of the season.

The Cardinals' lead still stood at 7-4 with 14:18 left in the third even after Trine goals from Bryce Salmon and Jarod Schepp. After another goal from Bachinksi, Nick Rubino made his mark by scoring twice in the tail end of the third period, including one as time expired. The two teams traded a pair of goals in the final period as North Central cruised to a 12-7 victory, with the outcome never in question.

Weaver, Bachinski and Rubino each notched three goals in the contest, with the latter also recording a game-high five points. The Thunder committed 24 turnovers—twice as many as North Central—four of which came at the hands of John Fitzgerald, while Steven Faux and Trenton Herubin both caused three. Meanwhile, Jake Allgood made seven saves in net.

North Central (4-1) hits the road on Mar. 14 for a matchup with the Spartans of Aurora University (2-4), with start time at Vago Field set for 11 a.m.
