NAPERVILLE, ILL. (Mar. 11, 2020) - Out playing their opponents through the entirety of the game, the North Central College women's lacrosse team dominated on Wednesday against Benedictine University, controlling the ball and the score in a 20-2 rout of the Eagles.

The Cardinals took nearly no time at all to take the lead, with Madeline McHugh making quick work of the opening draw win, taking it down the field for a goal 11 seconds into the contest. That ties her for second on the program leader board for fastest goal to start a period, one second off the record of 10 seconds by her head coach, Danielle Fiala in 2013.

It was all Cardinals for the rest of the half, taking it to the Eagles (3-3) to the tune of 13 more goals to go up 14-0 going into the half. Jessica Deetjen had five goals in the first, while Madeline McHugh added four with three assists as well.

Coming out of the half, Benedictine looked to get on the board, doing just that less than a minute into the half on a free position goal to trim the lead to 13. Another Eagles goal came shortly after, scoring their final goal with 24:33 remaining in the contest. Six-straight goals for the Cardinals ended the contest, with the final coming out to be 20-2.

McHugh led the team in goals with seven and also paced the team with six assists. Deetjen was behind with a standout performance of her own, scoring five goals and adding an assist as well. Christina Truver had six draw controls on the evening, while Grace Steiner led the team with six ground balls. Steiner and Rebecca Claussen had four caused turnovers a piece to lead the defense.

Abigail Widd won her fifth game of the year while saving three shots and giving up the two goals.

The Cardinals (5-0) are at home again on Saturday, taking on DePauw University at 1 pm. Click HERE for live stats and HERE for live video of the game.
