ITA All-Academic Teams
ITA Scholar Athletes
July 30, 2020 – The North Central College women's tennis team was honored as a All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for the third-straight season while a program record nine individuals were recognized as ITA Scholar Athletes for the 2019-2020 academic season.
To qualify for the ITA All-Academic Team award, a program must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or above, as all varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA. A total of 175 NCAA Division III women's teams qualified for the distinction, and North Central is one of five College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) representatives along with Carthage College, Illinois Wesleyan University, Millikin University and Wheaton College. This marks the fifth such award for the program, as the Cardinals previously earned the award in 2009, 2011, 2018 and 2019.
To qualify for ITA Scholar Athlete recognition, student-athletes must earn a varsity letter, have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 and have been enrolled at their present institution for at least two semesters. A program record nine individuals earned ITA Scholar Athlete honors, as
Morgan House,
Katie Legorreta and
Tiffany Smolik all earned the distinction for the third time.
Katie McGraw is now a two-time honoree, while
Laura Fox,
Natalie Grolmes,
Sara Grosse,
Sydney Sawyer and
Yaitova Spiegel were all named Scholar Athletes for the first time as Cardinals.
With the fall season postponed, North Central's revised spring schedule will be available at a later date.
