Chicago, Ill. (Oct. 16, 2021) - The North Central College men's soccer team fell to 4-1-1 in conference play and 14-1-1 overall in a tough overtime loss to conference rival North Park University.

The Cardinals were out shot by the Vikings eight to three but was able to keep the high powered Vikings offense off the board during the first half of the contest.

After a scoreless first half, the Cardinals had their opportunity to strike in the 56th minute as the Vikings fouled the Cardinals inside the penalty area. Junior Johnny Kraemer took the penalty kick and scored his fifth goal of the season putting the Cardinals up 1-0.

In the 86th minute, the Cardinals fouled the Vikings inside the penalty area allowing the Vikings Peder Olsen an opportunity to tie this game at one. Olsen sent one past Cardinal goalkeeper Sid Marquardt to even the score.

The game remained tied and both teams were looking to secure the win in overtime. Just one minute into overtime, Gustav Ericsson sent a pass across the net that found the foot of Jesse Anamoo who would put it past Marquardt and give the Vikings an Overtime victory.

Marquardt allowed two goals and tallied eight saves as he fell to 11-1-1 on the season. Vikings goalkeeper Alfred Sward allowed one goal and tallied one save as he improved his record to 7-3 on the year.

The Cardinals (14-1-1, 4-1-1 CCIW) are looking to bounce back on Wednesday as they host Dominican University in a non-conference matchup inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The match is set to start at 7:30 pm.
