Women's Volleyball Ends Season Against Augustana

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 27, 2021) - Playing in their final regular-season match of the year, the North Central College women's volleyball team came up short against Augustana College on Wednesday night, falling in three sets.

After the Vikings scored the first four points of the opening set, the Cardinals responded by scoring 12 of the next 13 points to go up 12-5. Answering with a run of their own, Augustana took a 16-14 lead. With the score knotted at 17, the Vikings put together a five-point swing and wouldn't look back to win the first set 25-22.

An Abbi Barickman kill tied set two at 5-5 before an Emma Happ service ace gave the Cardinals the 6-5 advantage. As each team went back and forth, Augustana used an 11-2 run to take the second set 25-17.

In what would be the final set of the match, Kaitlyn Boelter-Eberhardt's kill put North Central in front, 7-6. A four-point swing for the Cardinals thanks to three kills from Barickman and Emily Stallmann service ace gave North Central a 13-10 lead. The Vikings responded with six of the next eight points to go ahead 16-15. Following a 5-0 Cardinal run, Augustana won nine of the final 11 points to win the third set 25-22, and the match 3-0.

Barickman led North Central with nine kills, followed by Boelter-Eberhardt (7) and Katie Little (5). Maddi Barickman dished out 27 assists while Stallmann tallied seven digs on the match. Emily Schipper racked up 14 kills to pace Augustana with Olivia Doak adding 16 assists.

The Cardinals end their season with a 7-10 overall record and a record of 2-6 in conference play.
