Nov. 19, 2021 - North Central College's first-round game in the 2021 NCAA Division III Football Championship will not be contested Saturday, as the Cardinals' opponent, Carnegie Mellon University, has withdrawn from the tournament.
Carnegie Mellon issued a statement, saying in part: "Through the Carnegie Mellon University required weekly testing program for varsity athletes, we discovered that several members of the football team tested positive for COVID-19. To protect the health and welfare of all involved, the team has chosen to withdraw from the 2021 NCAA Division III Football Championship first round game against North Central College on Saturday, November 20."
The game will be officially ruled a no-contest. Ranked No. 1 nationally by D3football.com and the American Football Coaches Association, the Cardinals (10-0) will play the winner of Saturday's first-round game between the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Albion College (Michigan) in the tournament's second round on Saturday, Nov. 27.
