Nov. 2, 2021 - After closing out the regular season with a win over Carroll University, the North Central College men's soccer team was ranked No. 21 in the D3soccer.com Top 25 and No.5 in the United Soccer Coaches' Region VIII on the same day as
Sid Marquardt earns defensive player of the week.
This is the ninth top 25 poll from D3Soccer.com this season and the Cardinals were ranked for the ninth consecutive week coming in at No. 21 this week after two College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) wins.
Washington & Lee University claimed the top spot this week, Ohio Wesleyan in second, Trinity University in third, Messiah College in fourth and Tufts University in fifth, Amherst College in sixth, University of Chicago in seventh, Calvin University in eighth, Washington University (Mo.) in ninth and Kenyon college rounding out the top ten.
North Central moved up one spot in this week's rankings moving from No. 6 to No. 5. Washington University (Mo.) claimed the top spot again with the University of Chicago in second, Calvin University in third and conference rival North Park University on spot ahead of the Cardinals. Carthage College was ranked eight with Hope College in seventh and Kalamazoo College coming into the rankings for the first time this season at No. 6.
Marquardt earned CCIW defensive player of the week after he helped the Cardinals secure two wins and the No. 2 ranking in the conference standings. Marquardt tallied 12 saves while only allowing one goal and earning another shutout bringing his season total to 11.
The Cardinals (16-1-1, 6-1-1 CCIW) are back in action Wednesday night as they host the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans in the CCIW Semifinals. The match is set to kickoff at 7:30 pm inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Click HERE for CCIW tournament information.
