Bloomington, Ill. (Nov 3rd, 2021) - The North Central College women's soccer team gets its revenge on the Illinois Wesleyan Titans, as an early offensive outburst was too much for that Titan defense to handle. The Cardinals find themselves playing in their first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship on Saturday as they will travel to Wheaton College to take on the No. 1 seed Thunder.
Before fans could even get settled down in their seats, the Cardinal offense was putting goals in the back of the net against the Titan defense.
First, Aly Crum sent a long pass up the field to Katie Huey, who made a move around a Titan defender to find Kily Egan cutting to the goal to give the Cardinals the early 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute of play.
Cardinal fans were still cheering about Egan's goal when Elle Sutter found Kaitlyn Cannon for a goal to make the score 2-0 Cardinals. The goal came 33 seconds after Egan's goal.
As soon as the Cardinal fans had finished celebrating both early goals. Kily Egan lined up for a penalty kick and found the back of the net for the second time on the night to extend the lead to 3-0 in the 6th minute of play.
Almost two minutes after Egan's penalty kick, Cannon delivered a pass to Sutter this time to extend the Cardinal lead even further against the Titans. Heading into halftime, though the Cardinals led 4-3 as the Titans answered with 3 unanswered goals to make it a one goal game.
With 45 minutes separating the Cardinals from their first CCIW Championship appearance, the Cardinal defense locked it down and the offense poured it on in the second half.
Crum and Erin Jaskierski added goals of their own in the 48th minute and in the 76th minute to secure the win and to advance to the CCIW Championship.
Riley Lindsey finished with eight saves on the night and the Cardinal defense of Lauren Fischer, Ellie Lochbaum, Emma Goldman, Alaina Kuhn, and Mady Schmidt deserve huge credits for their performances tonight for helping beat Illinois Wesleyan for the second time in program history.
The Cardinals will play on Saturday at Wheaton College for the CCIW Championship with game time set for 7pm.
