Kenosha, Wis. (Dec. 2nd, 2021) - Competing in their third dual of the season, the North Central College men's wrestling team defeated Carthage College 40-3 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup on Thursday evening at the Tarble Arena.
The Cardinals took an early 5-0 lead over the Firebirds as Julian Valtierrez beat Lore Semier by tech fall 16-1 2:17 into the match. The Firebirds would win by decision at 133, but the Cardinals would get back on their winning ways following that weight class.
First, Caleb Magruder won his match by decision and increased the Cardinals lead. The Cardinals would continue to increase their lead, this time Joshua Cherba won by major decision and made the score 12-3 in favor of the Cardinals. Collin Mojena helped extend the commanding lead by winning his match by decision 15-9.
After the Firebirds took a forfeit at 165-pounds Joseph Jens, Jack Hominac, Elijah Brockie, and Jason Nako helped close out the evening. Jens defeated his opponent by tech fall 19-4, then Hominac matched Jens by tech falling his opponent 19-4. Brockie would pin his opponent 2:32 into the match to score six points to the Cardinals team score and then finally Nako defeated Mason Kochersperger by decision to finish off the Firebirds.
The North Central College men's wrestling team (3-0, 3-0 CCIW) return to the mats Saturday as they travel to UW-Lacrosse to compete in duals against UW-Lacrosse and Coe College. First dual is set to start at 9am.
