Lacrosse, Wis. (Dec. 4th, 2021) - The North Central College men's wrestling team travelled to UW-Lacrosse to take on #6 University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse and #5 Coe College and dropped both duals by close margins.
North Central dropped the first dual of the morning to UW-Lacrosse 22-15 and then lost to Coe College 27-19.
Julian Valtierrez got the Cardinals on the board against the Eagles as he won by decision to give the Cardinals the early 3-0 lead. Top ranked Robert Precin continues to dominate as he beat tenth ranked Sawyer Sarbacker. Alex Villar would win his match over Lacrosse's Jake Mandt to make the overall team score 9-3.
In the final six weight classes the Cardinals would lose four out of six and would be outscored 19-6.
Junior, Cole Cervantes beat #5 Nolan Hertel by decision 11-6 and freshman Joseph Jens beat Luke Clark of Lacrosse 5-2. Cervantes currently has a record of 12-2, while Jens has an overall record of 10-3.
Against Coe College, Precin defeated Bryce Parke 9-4 to make 6-3 in favor of Coe College in North Central's second dual of the day. Freshman, Javen Estrada pinned #7 Brock Henderson to give the Cardinals the lead over the Kohawks 9-6. Villar followed Estrada with a pin of his own at the 2:54 mark right before the first period ended to extend the Cardinal lead. Payton Geigner in the 165-pound match would add four more points to the Cardinals score as he beat Coe's Ryker Kurimski 10-2
The men's wrestling team (3-2, 3-0) returns to the mats December 11th as they host the 57th Annual North Central College Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 9am.
