PLAINFIELD, Ill. (Feb. 27, 2021) – Improving to 4-0 on the season, the North Central College men's tennis team was no match for non-conference opponent Lake Forest College on Saturday, as the Cardinals cruised to a 8-1 win inside Five Star Tennis.
Starting the evening with doubles play,
Justin Howes and
Morgan Red opened the scoring rolling to a 8-0 shutout over Oliver Gallego and Eduardo Mannuitt at the No. 3 position.
Javier Suarez Balsera and
Ramon Vilarroig Martinez followed with a 8-2 victory over Brant Christensen and Jacob Tilton at No. 2, before
Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez and
Andy Hinch teamed up to defeat Oleksyi Vyshyvanuk and Chase Garber, 8-4 to complete the doubles sweep.
Heading into singles play with a 3-0 lead, the Cardinals (4-0) wasted no time in securing the match victory as Red added a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Gallego at No. 5 to his 8-0 shutout in doubles play to increase the lead 4-0. Hinch also made quick work of his opponent, cruising to a 6-0, 6-3 straight-set win over Zach Cho at the No. 4 position.
Gonzalez Fernandez followed shortly after, winning in straight 6-1 sets over Tilton at No. 2, ahead of Vilarroig Martinez who was no match for Garber at No. 3, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Steven Mears then closed out the evening at the No. 6 position with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Mannuitt.
North Central returns to the court on Friday, Mar. 3, taking on NCAA Division I opponent Chicago State University inside Park Forest Tennis & Health Club at 12:30 p.m.
