February 8th, 2021 - Helping the North Central College men's volleyball team to victory against Aurora University on Wednesday,
Matt Nealon was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in their opening match.
Nealon finished the three-set match with 30 assists, six digs, five aces, and four kills. The junior was just one ace shy of tying the program-record for most aces in a match (Jacob Zemba, Mar. 3, 2018). In the end, the Cardinals won the match in just three sets (25-22; 25-19; 25-13). As a team, they tallied 39 kills, hit .400, and posted nine aces.
He is the first Cardinal to earn player of the week honors so far, and becomes the Seventh CCIW Player of the Week in program-history. North Central moved to the CCIW last season and had an individual win either the offensive or defensive award six of the eight weeks.
