NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Mar. 13th, 2021) - Defending their home court, the No. 14 North Central College men's volleyball team swept Illinois Wesleyan in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup inside of Gregory Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals found themselves down 6-1 early in the first set to the Titans. North Central chipped away and used a kill from Jared Moser, set up by Matt Nealon, to bring themselves within one, 11-10. Taking advantage of Titan errors and three-straight Cardinal kills from Moser, Tyler Donovan, and Nathan Jones gave North Central a 15-13 lead. Closing out the set, North Central went on a 6-1 run to take the first set, 25-19.

Keeping that momentum alive, North Central never trailed in the second set as a Moser service ace gave the Cardinals an 8-5 advantage. A Donovan kill in the middle of the set sparked a 13-0 rally as North Central would cruise to victory in set two, 25-9.

Looking to complete the sweep, Hayden Coday gave the Cardinals a 6-2 lead early in what would be the final set. Nealon would later rattle off three straight service aces to spark a 6-0 run as North Central took the set, 25-13, and the match 3-0.

As a team, North Central hit .435 as Moser led the Cardinals with 11 kills. Nine total Cardinals recorded at least one kill in the contest. Nealon dished out 20 assists to go along with his four service aces. Parker Nelson led the Cardinals with nine digs as well.

The Titans were led by Ethan Scott and Michael Eastman who each tallied seven kills. In total, Illinois Wesleyan posted a hitting percentage of .086.

The Cardinals have their toughest week of competition to date as they travel down Chicago Ave. to face No. 6 Benedictine University on Wednesday before looking to avenge an earlier loss in the season to No. 3 Carthage College on the road on Saturday afternoon.
