KENOSHA, Wis. (Mar. 20th, 2021) - Competing in their second top-15 showdown of the week, the North Central College men's volleyball team fell to No. 3 Carthage College in three sets on Saturday afternoon inside of Tarble Arena.

It was a tightly contested battle early on in the first set as Jake Miller recorded his first kill of the game, set up by Tyler Donovan, to tie the score up at eight apiece. A Firebirds' service error followed by a block from Jeremy Cardenas and Jared Moser put a stop to a  5-0 Carthage run, but it wasn't enough as the Firebirds took the first set, 25-19.

North Central jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second set thanks to kills from Cardenas and Moser. The Firebirds responded by bringing themselves back within one, 13-12. Later in the set, Matt Nealon posted his lone kill of the match to give the Cardinals a 19-18 lead. A Moser service ace evened the score at 24, but Carthage scored the final two points to win set two, 26-24. In the third set, a kill by Kevin Braceros sent North Central on a 7-2 rally to give the Cardinals a 14-9 advantage. From there, the Firebirds ended the set on a 16-4 run to close out the match in three sets.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was Moser who tallied 11 kills and four block assists. Nealon posted 18 assists over the three sets while Donovan added 12 assists. As a team, North Central posted a hitting percentage of .151 throughout the contest.

For Carthage, Matt Slivinski recorded 19 kills with Carter Schmidt posting 12. Gene McNulty dished out 34 assists for the Firebirds who hit .268 as a team.

The Cardinals visit Millikin University on Wednesday evening as they look to sweep the season series. The match is set to begin at 7:00 PM inside of the Griswold Center. Links to full game coverage can be found HERE.
