Rolling to a 9-0 shutout over Elmhurst University in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) dual on Tuesday, the North Central College men's tennis team improved to 4-1 on the conference slate with the win.

North Central (9-5, 4-1 CCIW) stormed out to a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles play, led off by a 8-2 final at the No. 1 position as Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez and Andy Hinch teamed up to defeat Justin Penados and Ben Cavka.

At the No. 2 position, Javier Suarez Balsera and Ramon Vilarroig Martinez were no match for Brandon Fulmer and Florin Stan, cruising to a 8-1 victory, ahead of Morgan Red and Justin Howes who completed the doubles sweep with a 8-3 win over Shawn Sabaricos and Tavious Imperial at the No. 3 spot.

Wasting no time in clinching the overall match win, Daniel Urraca Mozos moved the Cardinals one step closer, shutting out Imperial in straight 6-0 sets at No. 6, before Red secured the win for North Central in a decisive 6-0, 6-1 final at No. 5.

Continuing the dominance in singles play, Hinch took care of Stan, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 4 position, while Vilarroig Martinez rolled Cavka, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 and Gonzalez Fernandez downed Fulmer in straight 6-2 sets at No. 2.  Wrapping up the afternoon atop the lineup, Suarez Balsera finished off the Bluejays with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Penados to secure all six singles matches in straight sets for North Central.

With just two matches left in the regular season, the Cardinals currently sit in a four-way tie atop the conference standings, traveling to Carthage College on Friday, Apr. 23 with matches at Smeds Tennis Center scheduled for 3 p.m.
