NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Apr. 29th, 2021) - Sweeping their fifth doubleheader of the season, the North Central College softball team took down Wheaton College for the third time this year, as the Cardinals move to 20-14 overall and 16-12 in College Conference on Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play.

Following a three-up, three-down inning from Gianna Corban, Emily Miller singled up the middle to begin a two-out rally. Breanna Adams walked, allowing Dakota Novak to drive in Miller on a single to right field, giving North Central a 1-0 lead.

The Thunder answered in the top of the third as Ashley Carter followed up a double with a single of her own, as Wheaton took a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Adams led off with a double to right-center. Talia Torosian then hit her fourth home run of the year, this time on a two-run shot to right-center, to put the Cardinals in front, 3-2.

Both teams were held scoreless the rest of the way as Corban picked up her 11th win of the season while Adams recorded her first save of the season.

In game two, North Central got out to a 1-0 advantage as Katie Del Re scored, thanks to a single from Miller in the first inning. Adams, who started game two following her save in game one, kept the Thunder in check, not allowing a run through six innings of play.

After Del Re singled to begin the seventh, Miller doubled down the left-field line to plate Del Re, adding a much-needed insurance run for the Cardinals. The following at-bat, Adams scored Miller on a single of her own. Wheaton threatened in the bottom half of the seventh, scoring one run, but Adams worked out of it, ending the game on a double play up the middle.

North Central hosts Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon for senior day and their final home series of the season. The first pitch is set for 1:00 PM at Shanower Family Field.
