Apr. 29, 2021 - Turning in its second-highest scoring output of the campaign and leading nearly throughout the entire contest, the North Central College women's lacrosse team closed its 2021 schedule Thursday evening at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, defeating Augustana College, 17-10.
The Cardinals scored six of the game's first eight goals, getting three from Jessica Deetjen and two from Annabelle Steiner, to take a commanding leaad early before heading into halftime with a 9-5 advantage. Augustana (5-10) threatened to make a comeback bid midway throug8h the second period, narrowing the gap to 13-10, but the Vikings were held scoreless for the final 8:12 as North Central tallied the final four goals of the game.
Deetjen led all scorers with five goals while also turning in three assists and four draw controls. Steiner, Ellie Yonak and Berit Vandenbroucke each scored three goals for the Cardinals, while Mary PInkowski contributed six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Abigail Widd saved 10 shots.
Kathryn Hettiger was Augustana's leading scorer with four goals and Sandra Pielechaty distributred five assists.
North Central finishes the season with an overall record of 3-6.
