WAUKESHA, Wis. (Apr. 3, 2021) – Falling behind early, the North Central College baseball team never recovered on Saturday at Carroll University, dropping a 7-3 decision in the rubber game of the three-game College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) weekend series.
Carroll (10-8, 4-6 CCIW) opened the scoring early with a run in the bottom of the first, before putting up a four-spot in the bottom of the second as four-straight hits, including a two-run homerun, as well as a hit by pitch plated three of those runs before the Cardinals could record an out.
North Central (11-5, 6-3 CCIW) cut into the lead with a run in the top of the third, as
Michael Stoltz led off with a double to center and scored two batters later on a RBI-single off the bat of
Jared Wojcik.
In the top of the fourth,
Colin Weilbacher led off with a base hit to center and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later,
Joe Rizzo doubled to right center, scoring Weilbacher, while Stoltz sent Rizzo home on a RBI-single to right center, further trimming the Carroll lead 5-3.
That proved to be as close as the Cardinals would come to overtaking the lead, going silent over the final five innings while the Pioneers added a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
Jimmy Patock received the loss for North Central, allowing five earned on five hits over one inning pitched. Curtis Sheahan earned the win for Carroll, tossing eight innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out 10.
Offensively, Stoltz led the team with a 2-for-3 showing from the plate with a RBI and run scored, while
Rob Marinec finished 2-for-4 with a walk.
North Central returns home for a quick three-game homestand, starting with a single game on Tuesday, Apr. 6 against Millikin University at 3 p.m. at Zimmerman Stadium.
