CHICAGO, Ill. (Apr. 3, 2021) –
In the final non-conference matches of the season, the North Central College men's tennis team dropped 9-0 and 8-1 decisions at the hands of a very tough University of Chicago team on Saturday at Stagg Tennis Courts.

The Cardinals (6-4) fell behind 3-0 in the opener after doubles play, as Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez and Andy Hinch were a tough match for Jeremy Yuan and Joshua Xu at the No. 1 position, but ultimately fell just short in a 8-6 final.

Ramon Vilarroig Martinez rebounded from a 1-6 loss in the first set against Alex Guzhva at the No. 3 position, but came up just short in forcing a third set with a 6-7 loss in the second.  The Maroons (2-0) went on to sweep the other five singles positions in straight sets.

In match number two, the Maroons once again scored wins at all three doubles positions, but Marco Davila Salazar proved to be the highlight of the day for North Central, scoring a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles over Peyton Dooley to win the lone match on the day.

North Central returns to College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) action on Saturday, Apr. 10 at Elmhurst College's Brune Tennis Courts with matches slated for 11 a.m.
