NAPERVILLE, Ill. (May 13th, 2021) - Leading from start to finish, the North Central College softball team beat Wheaton College 8-1 behind a two-hit game in the circle from Gianna Corban while six different batters drove in runs. The Cardinals move to day four of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament with the win.

Following a scoreless first inning, Talia Torosian began a two-out rally with a single through the left side. Alyssa Cork walked before Samantha Gadomski singled to bring Torosian home for the first run of the game.

North Central's bats exploded in the top half of the fourth inning as Cork hit an RBI-double to plate Torosian. Katie Del Re hit a clutch two-out triple down the left-field line to score Cork. Keeping the momentum going, Jaime Smith reached on a Thunder error, allowing Del Re to cross home plate. Emily Miller made Wheaton pay for it as she singled to score Smith and give the Cardinals a 5-0 advantage.

Adding to the lead in the sixth, Amanda Martinez singled before Del Re singled and Smith doubled, allowing Martinez and Del Re to score. Breanna Adams then hit a sacrifice fly as Smith scored from second.

The Thunder added a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Corban kept them in check as she totaled six strikeouts on the day.

With her stolen base in the third inning, Del Re set a new single-season record for stolen bases with 20. Corban now sits at fifth in program history for strikeouts in a single season with her six today.

North Central faces Carroll for the second time this tournament in a win-or-go-home game at Workman Family Field on the campus of Millikin University. The first pitch is set for 2:30 PM. You can find links to live video and stats HERE.
