Men’s Wrestling Crowned as CCIW Dual Meet Champions

Jan. 22, 2022 - The North Central College men's wrestling team capped off a perfect 8-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) record today, taking down Concordia University (Wis.) and Lakeland University to be crowned the 2022 CCIW Dual Meet Champions. 

The Cardinals faced off against the Concordia University (Wis.) Falcons in their first dual meet of the day. Julian Vatierrez got the action started by pinning Emilio Acosta in the 125-pound weight class. In the 133-pound weight class, Robert Precin defeated opponent Gabe Rodriguez 23-8 giving the Cardinals an 11-0 lead. Javen Estrada would waste no time in his 141-pound bout, pinning Austin Vincent in 51 seconds putting the Cardinals up 17. In the 149-pound weight class, Alex Villar would pin Bryce Claypool in 39 seconds giving the Cardinals a commanding lead. Cole Cervantes would defeat Jack O'Donnell in a close battle, 18-15, in the 157-pound weight class before Payton Geigner would defeat Quinn Hoopman by a 12-0 major decision. Joseph Jens would earn his third pin of the season against Carson Cook in the 174-pound weight class putting the Cardinals up 36-0. In the 184-pound weight class, Jack Hominac would defeat Peyton Smith by a 9-2 decision before Cody Baldridge would pin Cameron Mercer in a 197-pound bout. Robby Bates would wrestle Dalton Sell in the final match of the dual. Bates would pin Sell, securing six points for the Cardinals and a 51-0 win. 

The Cardinals would take on Lakeland University in their final dual of the day. Justin Brown would get the action started in the 125-pound weight class. Brown would defeat Tristan Supernaw by a 15-4 major decision putting the Cardinals up four. Precin would take on James Littles in a 133-pound bout, Precin would pin Littles in the first round before Josh Dorr would win by a forfeit giving the Cardinals a 16-0 lead. In the 149-pound weight class, Caleb Magruder would defeat Aleksander Pejovski by a 16-1 technical fall before Tanner Willett and Geigner would both receive wins by forfeit putting the Cardinals up 33-0. Jens would face Matthew Crowley in the 174-pound weight class. Jens would pin Crowley securing six points for the Cardinals putting them up 39-0. In the 184-pound weight class, Hominac would pin Chad Cowart in the first 52 seconds of the match before Elijah Brockie would pin Nidal Farah putting the Cardinals up 51-0. Jason Nako would finish the dual meet with a forfeit giving the Cardinals a 57-0 win. 

The Cardinals are back in action on Jan. 28 as they travel to Wheaton, Ill to compete in the Pete Willson Wheaton College Invitational. The matches are set to begin at 11:00 am inside King Arena.
