CHICAGO (Oct. 22, 2022) - Traveling to face the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon, the North Central College women's volleyball team fell in three sets to the Maroons in Ratner Athletics Center.
Chicago opened the first set with a 7-0 run before a kill from Sarah Elischer started a 4-0 run to close the gap. Back-to-back kills from Amber Vande Hei brought the score to 8-11 before a 5-0 run gave the Maroons the momentum and won set one, 25-13.
Vande Hei scored the first two Cardinal points of the second set but the Maroons marched out to a 15-4 lead. With a kill from Kendra Battle and an ace from Anna Gawron, North Central used a 6-0 run to claw their way back into the set. Chicago responded with a 6-0 run of their own as they took set two, 25-13.
Abbi Barickman scored the first point of set three with a kill before a Taylor O'Malley ace gave the Cardinals a 5-2 edge. After Chicago retook the lead, Battle put North Central back on top with a kill, 15-14. Both teams traded points until the Maroons closed out the final set, 25-22.
Vande Hei led the Cardinals in kills with seven, followed by Barickman (6) and Battle (4). Gawron dished out 22 assists and tallied two aces while Emily Stallmann posted 17 digs.
North Central returns to conference action as they visit Millikin University in a critical College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match. The first serve is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday inside of the Griswold Center.
