Cardinals Prevail with 48th-Straight CCIW Title

WARRENVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 29, 2022)The North Central College men's cross country team monopolized the top-9 positions at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship meet as it produced a perfect score of 15 points to secure its 48th-consecutive CCIW Championship crown.

The Cardinals, in their dominant fashion, separated themselves from the eight-team field early on in the eight-kilometer course placing nine runners in the top-10.

Connor Riss stormed through the field with ease to take the individual title finishing in a time of 24 minutes and 39.5 seconds and extending the program's streak to 12-consecutive CCIW Individual Champions. Behind him was Drew Guimond (24:41.1) who took second, while Braden Nicholson (24:52.7) took third.

Thomas Rohr (24:55.4) led the remaining Cardinals by coming in fourth place, Nigel Neibel (24:55.9) in fifth place, and James McGlashon (24:58.1) in sixth place. Max Svienty (25:01.8) came in seventh place, Julian Higueros (25:03.4) came in eighth place, Jacob Kluckhohn (25:07.0) came in ninth place, and Millikin's Bradyn Olmstead (25:16.6) rounded out the top ten finishers and All-CCIW First Team.

In addition to Guimond placing second at today's race and being awarded to the All-CCIW First Team, he also received the Elite 26 Award for his hard work in the classroom. Ishaan Patel received the RESPECT Award for North Central for his continued hard work and consistent support to his fellow teammates. Patel also participated in the Men's Open portion of the race today and placed first overall in a time of 25 minutes and 42.3 seconds.

Carthage College's 75 points were the closest contention for North Central, followed by Millikin University with 80 points, Wheaton College with 118 points, and Carroll University's 131 points rounded out the top-five team finishes. 

Coach Matt Sinnott and his staff were honored with the CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year Award. 
 
The Cardinals continue Championship Season on Nov. 12 when they head to Geneva, Ill. once more this season for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship.
