North Central takes 2nd at CCIW Championship

WARRENVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 29, 2022) The North Central College women's cross country team turned in a second-place team performance at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship Meet on Saturday and snagged four All-CCIW honors.

Wheaton's Alyssa Mantia took control of the race early on, latching onto first-place team and snagging the Individual Championship title in a time of 22 minutes and 27.0 seconds. 

Nicole Brandy was the first Cardinal across the line to finish 7th overall in a time of 22 minutes and 59.2 seconds. Just behind Brandy was Julia Benes (23:37.3) in 11th place. 

Julianne Billings (23:46.7) was the next Cardinal across the line placing 15th overall, Miranda Baker (24:05.7) wasn't far behind and placed 20th overall and to round out the top-20 finishers. Brandy was the only Cardinal to be awarded All-CCIW first team, but Benes joined Billings and Baker on the All-CCIW second team. Hannah Kirby received the RESPECT Award for North Centrals Women's team for her support throughout the year.

Emmy Mussey (24:28.4) in 27th and Lauren Belvel (24:50.6) in 36th. Natalie Nestler (24:54.6) rounded out the Cardinals' top-seven finishing in 40th.

Wheaton College took the team title with 45 points, North Central took second with 80 points. Carroll compiled 94 points for third, followed by Illinois Wesleyan's 114 points in fourth and Augustana University's 119 points to round out the top-five.

North Central will take advantage of one final tune-up on Nov. 3 as they host the Red/White Invitational back at St. James Farm in Warrenville. The race is co-ed and is set to start at 4 p.m.
