CCIW Release
Oct. 5, 2022 - Following a record-setting weekend of tennis for
Natalie Bassett, the North Central College women's tennis sophomore garnered her second College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Week award.
Bassett became the first Cardinal to compete in the quarterfinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Regional Championships. To open play, she posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over her DePauw University opponent. In the round of 32, Bassett notched a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lillia Walter of Otterbein College. Her most impressive win of the event came when she knocked off fifth-seeded Sydney Cianciola in two sets, 6-2, 6-1. In the quarterfinals, Bassett fell to eventual singles champion, Sylwia Mikos of the University of Chicago.
In doubles play, Bassett teamed up with Kaeli Smashey who took down Emily Markus/Paige Wille of Millikin University, rebounding from a loss to that duo earlier in the season. In the round of 16, they lost to the No. 6 ranked doubles team from Chicago.
On the season, Bassett is 11-1 in singles play and 9-2 in doubles action. Bassett claims her third career CCIW Player of the Week award, becoming just the third Cardinal to do so.
