2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams
Nov. 15, 2022 - The North Central College men's soccer team saw five of their athletes be named to the NCAA Division III College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, nominated by members of CSC, the organization announced Tuesday.
The CSC recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
Branden Collins, a sophomore from South Elgin, Ill. earned a 4.0 GPA as an actuarial science major. Collins played in 20 games this season for the Cardinals, dishing out an assist in the Cardinals 2-2 draw against Aurora University. Collins was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Elite 26 award which is given to the Student-Athlete who excels academically and athletically at the conference level in each of the CCIW's 26 sponsored sports.
Jack Fairwood, a senior from Carpentserville, Ill. earned a 3.76 GPA as a mechanical engineering major. Fairwood played in all 22 games this season for the Cardinals, starting 20. He scored four goals this season with four assists while being named to the All-CCIW Second Team.
Lukas Munchausen, a senior from Oslo, Norway earned a 3.55 GPA as an international business major. Munchausen played in 19 games this season for the Cardinals while dishing out one assist in the Cardinals 3-0 win over Elmhurst University.
Davis Nelson, a sophomore from Madison, Wis. earned a 3.92 GPA as an economics major. Nelson played in all 22 games this season, starting 21 while helping anchor the Cardinals backline that only allowed 21 goals this season. Nelson tallied one goal and one assist for the Cardinals this season.
Aidan Westerberg, a junior from Belvidere, Ill earned a 3.98 GPA as a Biochemistry major. Westerberg played and started in 21 games this season for the Cardinals, scoring a team high goals and five assists. Westerberg was named the CCIW's Offensive Player of the Year while being named a All-CCIW First Team Selection. This is the second consecutive year that Westerberg has been an Academic All-District Selection.
This is the most Academic All-District Selections the Cardinals have recieved in program histroy,
Sid Marquardt and Westerberg were both honored last season.
The Cardinals finished their season with a 17-1-4 record while claiming their first CCIW Regular Season Title since 1994 and their second consecutive CCIW Tournament Championship.
